Welcome to Thaki

Tourism + Social Support + Environmentalism + Community

Who are we?

We are a Franco-Bolivian agency based in La Paz, Bolivia, specializing in the organization of tailor-made tourism trips with a social and ecological focus.

Founded in 2011 by Anne and Jérôme, two French individuals who fell in love with Bolivia.

Fully aware that a trip to Bolivia has a negative ecological impact on the planet, we strive to ensure that our travelers have the most positive impact possible while there.

Community Involvement

This translates into strong community participation in our trips, raising awareness among all our partners about the issue of plastic waste and other waste, and assisting communities or other local tourism actors who seek advice or need help financing new infrastructure.

Local Tourism Actors

We strive to include local tourism actors as much as possible, fairly compensating all our partners and, above all, investing heavily and constantly in recognition. Even in these difficult pandemic times and with a very limited budget, we have continued to travel to Bolivia to discover new paths, communities, and potential tourist attractions.

Community Aid Projects

Thaki has also participated in several community aid projects, raising awareness about waste management as well as the provision of drinking water in certain regions deprived of it.

We feel indebted to our country of adoption.

In this way... our mission is:

To make our contribution by participating in economic development and helping rural areas to develop and escape from poverty. Through our Thaki travel agency, we offer our travelers the great opportunity to live unforgettable experiences through real exchanges with the populations of these communities.

We have two priorities: the first is to offer the most varied and personalized trips, listening to the desires of our clients. The second is to provide a pleasant working environment for all our employees, as well as fair compensation.

Over the years and through our travels, we have met many communities from all corners of the country, the Altiplano and Amazon, forged numerous ties with many local tourism actors, and gradually discovered all the regions and tourist attractions of the country. Thanks to these numerous recognitions and all our trusted collaborators, our agency is now one of the best specialists in this magnificent and complex country that is Bolivia.

Our ultimate goal is to enable communities to achieve real economic development. By helping communities develop community tourism modules, we assist them in finding a financial alternative to working in mines or agriculture that only allows for personal consumption. In any case, they can make a good living from mining or agriculture.

We want to warn Bolivians, especially those living in rural areas, not to be tempted by the establishment of a mining operation. Industrialists see them as cheap labor, promising them a better future.

What mining companies do not mention is that, as has happened throughout Bolivia's history, mining has never left anything positive except desolation and destruction of residents by a few wealthy owners. Just look at what is happening in northern La Paz (Guanay, Mapiri, Mayaya, etc.), where water contamination by mercury, prostitution, femicides, and family destruction reign.

Ecotourism or responsible tourism is also the economic activity that has the least negative impact on the environment. It is urgent and essential to help communities develop responsible tourism activities to create jobs for a population threatened by the exodus of young people and the harmful effects of excessive mining exploitation.

What We Do?

As a tourism agency, we carry out the following activities

Adventure and Mountain Travel

We are the agency specialized in adventure and mountain tourism in Bolivia. We work with the best guides in South America and have opened many new routes in the Bolivian Andes.

Social and Environmental Education

As part of the foundation and social aid, we carry out activities in communities to support their social and environmental development.

Community Support

The Thaki Foundation organizes events aimed at fulfilling the Sustainable Tourism project in communities like Illimani. This project arises from the need to improve the experience of tourists visiting Bolivia and to enhance the working and environmental conditions of these communities.
